Polyaniline coated on particles of celite is used as support to load palladium catalyst. This heterogenized Celite center dot PANI center dot Pd system, is used as an efficient catalyst for chemoselective hydrogenation reactions. The catalyst is characterized by usual spectral, analytical techniques and studied for hydrogenation reactions at ambient conditions. The mild reaction conditions allow the control over the reactions and excellent selectivity is achieved in number of conversions. Hydrogenation of a carbon-carbon double bond was favored over other polar pi-bond systems, while labile functional groups such as benzyl ether, benzyl esters, cyano, nitro and halogen remained unaffected. Primary amines were converted to N,N-dimethyl amines with formaldehyde, the double bond of coumarin was selectively hydrogenated without opening of the lactone functionality.

A transition metal free expedient approach for the C=C bond cleavage of electron deficient alkenes such as arylidene Meldrum’s acid and malononitrile derivatives are discussed. The C=C bond of these compound were cleaved to benzoic acid in good yield at high temperature. Most importantly, with oxone in CH3CN/H2O at 45 degrees C or m-CPBA in DCM or NaClO2 in THE/H2O or PIDA in THE at room temperature furnished benzaldehyde derivatives selectively in excellent yields. The highly selective C = C reduction of alpha,beta-enones was realized by CF3SO3H-modifying noble-metal-free TiO2 photocatalysis. Selectivity for C = C over C = O reduction was dramatically reversed from fair (similar to 42% without CF3SO3H-modifying) to excellent (> 99%) upon only 6 mol% CF3SO3H loading without any noble-metal additive. Attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and C-13-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) demonstrated that CF3SO3H modification results in the alpha,beta-enone polar C = O bond sitting away from rather than near to the active sites of polar TiO2 catalysts.

Tyrosinase is an important component of the enzyme polyphenol oxidase, which upon contact with the phenolic substrates forms the pigment melanin and induces undesirable food browning. The phenolic and triterpenoid compounds that naturally occur in plants are well known as tyrosinase inhibitors. Combretum micranthum (CM) leaves, Euphorbia hirta (EH) plant, and Anacardium occidentale (AO) fruits are traditionally known to have potential anti-tyrosinase activities. The aim of this study was to optimize the ultrasound-assisted extraction of secondary metabolites from these matrices, and to evaluate in tubo the antityrosinase activity of these extracts. Efforts were also taken to profile the secondary metabolites, mainly the phenolic and triterpenoid compounds, in order to understand their probable association with tyrosinase inhibition. The optimal ultrasound-assisted extraction conditions for simultaneous extraction of phenolic, and triterpenoid compounds were determined. The aqueous fraction of these extracts showed significant antityrosinase activity, with the CM leaves exhibiting the strongest inhibitory effect (IC50 of 0.58 g.L-1). The predominant metabolic compounds from these natural extracts were putatively identified by using a high-resolution quadrupole-time of flight (QToF) LC-MS instrument. The high-resolution accurate mass-based screening resulted in identification of 88 predominant metabolites, which included dihydrodaidzein-7-O-glucuronide, micromeric acid, syringic acid, morin, quercetin-3-O-(6 ”-malonyl-glucoside), 4-hydroxycoumarin, dihydrocaffeic acid-3-O-glucuronide, to name some, with less than 5 ppm of mass error.

Reported here for the first time is the Ir-catalyzed gamma-selective hydroboration of gamma-substituted allylic amides under mild reaction conditions. A variety of functional groups could be compatible with reaction conditions, affording gamma-branched amides in good yields with <= 97% gamma-selectivity. Magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) have been evaluated for inhibiting microbial growth and biofilm formation. In this study the effect of the nanocomposite Moroccan propolis extract / MNPs acting against methicillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was evaluated. Chemical composition of propolis was established by pyrolysis coupled to gas chromatography and mass spectrometry method (pyrolysis GC/MS). MNPs were obtained through the co-precipitation method. The fabricated nanostructure was characterized by X-ray Diffraction (DRX), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Fourier Transform-Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). TEM of MNPs provided a particle average size of 15 nm, FTIR spectral analysis enabled a fast way of identification of MNPs, attesting the occurrence of the different combinations. The use of MNPs loaded with propolis and the antibiotic chloramphenicol at Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) value inhibited the bacterial growth of MSSA (methicillin susceptible strain of S. aureus) and MRSA strains. After the treatment with MNPs-OA-P-CLo nanocomposite (MNPs with oleic acid, propolis and chloramphenicol), the disruption of the bacterial cell was observed by TEM. The combination of propolis and chloramphenicol in free form at MIC value largely impaired both MSSA and MRSA strains as, after 2 h of treatment, no viable cells of MRSA 2 and MRSA 16 were recovered. Hence, the results elucidated a new antibacterial nanocomposite synthesis, for possible applications as prospective nanoantibacterial agents or drug carriers. A one-pot method for joining three separate components leading to an assortment of 4-arylquinazolines (27 examples) in good to excellent yields is described. The method consists of a palladium(II)-catalyzed- cascade reaction involving C(sp)-C(sp(2)) coupling followed by intramolecular C-N bond formation. The reaction was readily scaled up to gram quantity and successfully applied to the synthesis of a translocator- protein (TSPO) ligand.

Two chiral polymers based on binaphthol(BINOL) were synthesized. The polymer can be used as a chiral inducer to coordinate with ZnEt2 to form a recoverable self-supporting catalyst, which could be used in the asymmetric catalytic reaction of alpha, beta-unsaturated ketones. The target products of high yield and good enantioselectivity(e.e. value up to 99%) can be obtained under mild conditions. The catalytic activity was not reduced significantly after 4 or 5 cycles of recovery of the recovered polymers.

Two series of [1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyrazine derivatives bearing 4-oxo-pyridazinone moieties (compounds 21a-l and 22a-l) were designed and their IC50 values were evaluated against three cancer cell lines (A549, MCF-7 and HeLa) and c-Met kinase. Among them, the compound with most potential, 22i, exhibited excellent anti-tumor activity against A549, MCF-7 and HeLa cancer cell lines with IC50 values of 0.83 +/- 0.07 mu M, 0.15 +/- 0.08 mu M and 2.85 +/- 0.74 mu M, respectively, and it also possessed superior c-Met kinase inhibition ability at the nanomolar level (IC50 = 48 nM). Moreover, dose-dependent experiments, AO fluorescence staining, cell cycle assay, Annexin V-FITC/PI staining and docking studies were carried out in this study. The results demonstrated that compound 22i could be a potential c-Met kinase inhibitor.
