This manuscript details the impact of stabilizing agents on the structural, optical properties of Ag@SnO2 core shell nanoparticles and its biological applications. Three different stabilizing agent viz. Poly Vinyl Pyrrolidone (PVP), zeroth generation triazolyl glycodendrimer and zeroth generation triazolyl chalcone dendrimer were used as stabilizers in the synthesis of Ag@SnO2 nanoparticles. The results were compared to study their effect on the structural and optical properties of the synthesized samples. The structural parameters of the samples were investigated by XRD analysis, FESEM and HRTEM images. The presence of SnO2 shell on the Ag core was also corroborated by XPS results. The XRD data was used for refining and characterizing the elements present in the sample by Reitveld method. The average crystallite size, dislocation density, lattice parameters (a, c), lattice strain of the samples were calculated using XRD measurements. Williamson – Hall (W-H) method and Size Strain Plot (SSP) method were used to calculate the lattice strain of the synthesized sample. The concentric rings of the SAED pattern and the lattice fringe images exhibited the interplanar d-spacing values and the results were compared with XRD measurements. The optical properties of the samples were investigated using UV-Vis spectra and the band gap energy were calculated using Tauc plot. The Photoluminescence (PL) studies of the Ag@SnO2 core – shell nanoparticles with the three stabilizing agents are also discussed in this work. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of the chalcone dendrimer stabilized Ag@SnO2 core – shell nanoparticles were tested against the pathogens Bacillus subtilis, Proteus mirabilis, Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. Weakly coordinating, ketone-directed C-H vinylation using vinyl acetate is reported here for a wide range of aromatic ketones such as acetophenones, diaryl ketones, chromones and biologically relevant chalcones under cost-effective and air-stable cobalt(iii)-catalysis. Regioselective, mono-vinylation occurs for challenging vinyl substitution-free styrenes in moderate to good yields, and this moiety has been used to synthesize functionalized indanone, alpha-naphthol and an advanced intermediate for bruguierol A synthesis. An acrylate-surrogate provided the corresponding alkenylated product under these vinylation conditions. Detailed mechanistic studies are carried out to support the proposed catalytic cycle.

An inexpensive, mild, and highly efficient epoxidation protocol has been developed involving bubbling SO2F2 gas into a solution of olefin, 30% aqueous hydrogen peroxide, and 4 N aqueous potassium carbonate in 1,4-dioxane at room temperature for 1 h with the formation of the corresponding epoxides in good to excellent yields. The novel SO2F2/H2O2/K2CO3 epoxidizing system is suitable to a variety of olefinic substrates including electron-rich and electron-deficient ones.

A ruthenium-catalyzed photoredox coupling of substituted N-aryltetrahydroisoquinolines (THIQs) and different bench-stable pyridinium salts was successfully developed to give fast access to 1-benzyl-THIQs. Furthermore, secondary alkyl and allyl groups were also successfully introduced via the same method. Additionally, the typically applied N-phenyl group in the THIQ substrate could be replaced by the cleavable p-methoxyphenyl (PMP) group and successful N-deprotection was demonstrated.

Regioselectivity is a crucial issue in Baeyer-Villiger (BV) oxidation. To date, few reports have addressed asymmetric BV oxidation of 3-substituted cycloketones due to the high difficulty of controlling regio- and stereoselectivity. Herein, we report the asymmetric BV oxidation of 3-substituted and meso-disubstituted cycloketones with chiral N,N ‘-dioxide/Sc(iii) catalysts performed in three ways: classical kinetic resolution, parallel kinetic resolution and desymmetrization. The methodology was applied in the total and formal synthesis of bioactive compounds and natural products. Control experiments and calculations demonstrated that flexible and adjustable catalysts played a significant role in the chiral recognition of substrates.

A generalized, simple and efficient transfer hydrogenation of unsaturated bonds has been developed using HBP in and various proton reagents as hydrogen sources. The substrates, including alkenes, alkynes, aromatic heterocycles, aldehydes, ketones, imines, azo, nitro, epoxy and nitrile compounds, are all applied to this catalytic system. Various groups, which cannot survive under the Pd/C/H-2 combination, are tolerated. The activity of the reactants was studied and the trends are as follows:styrene>diphenylmethanimine>benzaldehyde>azobenzene>nitrobenzene>quinoline>acetophenone>benzonitrile. Substrates bearing two or more different unsaturated bonds were also investigated and transfer hydrogenation occurred with excellent chemoselectivity. Nano-palladium catalystin situgenerated from Pd(OAc)(2) and HBP in extremely improved the TH efficiency. Aim: There is a continuous and urgent need for new anticancer agents with novel structures and target selectivity. Methods & results: The anticancer activity of the prepared compounds was assessed against human lung (A549) and stomach (AGS) cancer cell lines and evaluated in the noncancer human lung fibroblast (MRC-5) cell line. 2-Pyrazolines were devoid of toxicity in all cell lines used, chalcones bearing a beta-(benz)imidazole moiety being toxic toward AGS cell line. Mechanistic studies showed that these compounds trigger loss of cell viability and mitochondrial membrane potential, while eliciting morphological traits compatible with regulated cell death, which was ultimately shown to derive from caspase activation, specifically caspase-3. Conclusion: Chalcones 1-3 have been identified as new and promising anticancer agents toward the AGS cell line.

Nicotinic acid hydrazide was incorporated into new 4,5-dihydro-5-hydroxy-3,5-diphenylpyrazol-1-yl derivatives. Compounds 6a-h were synthesized, and their antihyperlipidemic activity was evaluated in high cholesterol diet-fed rat model. Compounds 6e, 6f were found to decrease the levels of serum total cholesterol by 14-19% compared to control group. Total triglycerides were also reduced by 24-28% and LDL cholesterol by 16%. As expected from parent niacin, compounds 6e and 6f caused an elevation of HDL cholesterol by 33-41%. Docking study supported the ability of designed compounds to block NPC1L1 active site in a manner similar to that observed with ezetimibe.
