In spite of the fact that a variety of reactions have been exploited for creation of innumerable porous organic polymers (POPs), aldol condensation reactions between aldehydes and ketones leading to enones remain unutilized quite inexplicably. We surmised that the enone functionality can be exploited for stabilization of Pd akin to the manner of Pd(0) in Pd-2(dba)(3) by developing POPs based on aldol condensation reactions of polycarbonyl compounds with dialdehydes, and that such materials can be employed for catalytic transformations. By subjecting rationally designed tri-/tetraacetyl-functionalized aryl amines to aldol condensations with terephthalaldehyde, three different POPs, i.e., TPAPOPs 1-3, that feature enone functionalities have been synthesized and shown to exhibit palpable gas sorption properties. Remarkably, inverse uptake for sorption of H-2 over N-2 was observed for all POPs. As surmised, the representative POP, i.e., TPAPOP-1, was found to stabilize in situ-generated Pd(0) nanoparticles to enable application of the resultant material, i.e., Pd@TPAPOP-1, as a recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for a number of organic transformations. It is shown that coupling reactions such as Suzuki and Heck, and reductions such as nitro-to-amine and hydrogenation of olefins can be accomplished in a facile manner by employing Pd@TPAPOP-1 as a heterogeneous recyclable catalyst; the aforementioned transformations have been demonstrated on a broad set of substrates for each type. The anticancer activity of chalcones and their analogs is the most important biological activity of them among their broad spectrum of their biological activity. In this investigation, we performed quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) modeling of the anticancer activity of 134 chalcones and their analogs against MCF-7 human breast cancer cell lines using Monte Carlo method. QSAR models were calculated by CORAL software and optimal descriptors were calculated with SMILES and hydrogen suppressed molecular graph (HSG). The total dataset split into training, invisible training, calibration, and validation set randomly. Analysis of three probes of the Monte Carlo optimization with three random splits was done. Results from three random splits displayed robust, very simple, predictable, and reliable models for training, invisible training, calibration, and validation set with the correlation coefficient (R-2) of 0.8142-0.8244, 0.8244-0.8699, 0.8125-0.8627 and 0.8290-0.8686 respectively. As a result, the obtained models help to identify the hybrid descriptors for the increase and the decrease of anticancer activity of chalcones against MCF-7 human breast cancer cell lines. This simple QSAR model can be used for prediction of log IC50 of numerous chalcone derivatives against breast cancer cell. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

In the synthesis performed in this study, derivatives of 4-tert-butylcyclohexanone 1 were obtained using typical reactions of organic synthesis. The bioactivity of the selected compounds was evaluated. 1-(Bromomethyl)-8-tert-butyl-2-oxaspiro[4.5]decan-3-one (5) was characterized by attractant properties against larvae and a weak feeding deterrent activity against adults of Alphitobius diaperinus Panzer. This bromolactone was a moderate antifeedant towards Myzus persicae Sulzer. In addition, ethyl (4-tert-butylcyclohexylidene)acetate (2) and bromolactone 5 displayed antibacterial activity. The strongest bacteriostatic effect was observed against Gram-positive strains: Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. The bromolactone 5 also limited the growth of Escherichia coli strain.

The heterogeneous heteropolyacid-catalyzed acetalization of glycerol with acetone was investigated under solvent-free conditions. In this work, the calcined Ta/W mixed addenda heteropolyacid catalyst ({H-20}-355) was employed as a solid acid catalyst and showed much higher activity than these soluble Keggin-type catalysts in the acetalization of glycerol with acetone due to its superacidity (H-0 =-12.95). Meanwhile, it showed high stability in catalytic recycles and extended for acetalization of glycerol with the other aldehydes and ketones. Based on the catalyst characterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), P-31 NMR spectra, FT-IR spectra, pyridine-absorbed FT-IR, and Hammett acidity functions (H-0) by UV-vis spectroscopy, it was found that the acidic strength of the Ta/W mixed addenda heteropolyacid was highly dependent on the contents of crystalline water that could be tuned by calcination temperature. Notably, the solid superacid catalyst {H-20}355 was swollen by acetone, exhibiting an interesting pseudo-liquid behavior, which served as a microreactor and facilitated the reaction. Furthermore, after the acetalization reaction of glycerol with furfural (98% yield of acetal) on {H-20}-355 catalyst, the furan ring of the acetal products can be hydrogenated sequentially into dioxolane or dioxane with Pd/C catalyst under room temperature condition without the need of any isolation procedure.

Bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS) are important bio-medical structures, playing a major role in the interaction with human immune systems. Their core regions, containing multiple units ofl-glycero-d-mannoheptoses (l,d-heptose), are highly conserved structurally (withO3 andO7 glycosidic bonds), making them an epitope of high interest for the potential development of new antibiotics and vaccines. Research in this field has always been restricted by the limited availability of the parentl,d-heptose as well as its biochemical epimeric precursord-glycero-d-mannoheptose (d,d-heptose). This problem of availability has recently been solved by us, through a rapid and efficient practical synthesis ofl,d-manno-heptose peracetate demonstrated at scale. Herein we report an optimized, technically simple and versatile synthetic strategy for the differentiation of both thel-glyceroandd-glycero-d-mannoheptose scaffolds. Our approach is based on an orthoester methodology for the differentiation of all three positions of the sugar core using aO6,O7-tetraisopropyl disiloxyl (TIPDS) protecting group for the exocyclic positions. Furthermore, the regioselective opening toward 7-OH acceptors (6O-FTIPDS ethers) differentiates the exocyclic diol which has been demonstrated with a broader set of substrates and for bothmanno-heptoses for the first time.

Novel methodologies are essential to reduce the concentrations of nutrients, microbes and chemicals from sewage prior to discharge into the environment. These are required to preserve and maintain the environmental conditions and human health. Although several techniques exist for the reduction of the chemicals and microbes, the efficacy of the techniques is not significant due to significant physical and structural diversity. Treatment of sewage with microalgae has gained popularity over the past few years, and limited investigations were reported in the literature. The present study deals with the treatment of household sewage treatment plant by using green algae, namely, Scenedesmus, Chlorella and their combination. During the experiment, it was observed that the algae grow under adverse condition and utilised the available nutrient for their survival. Further, the advantage of algae treatment is that they are efficient, ecofriendly, renewable and very much cost-efficient. Thus, many disorders can be prevented by using this treatment. The new study on mechanism of degradation and isolation of commercially important enzymes will be very significant.

Chitosan microspheres modified by 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde were prepared and used in the construction of a heterogeneous catalyst loaded with nano-Cu prepared by a reduction reaction. The chemical structure of the catalyst was investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Under mild conditions, such as no ligand at room temperature, the catalyst was successfully applied to catalyze the borylation of alpha,beta-unsaturated receptors in a water-methanol medium, yielding 17%-100% of the corresponding beta-hydroxy product. Even after repeated use five times, the catalyst still exhibited excellent catalytic activity.

The synthesis of a series of novel 7-aminooxazolo[5,4-d]pyrimidines5, transformations during their synthesis and their physicochemical characteristics have been described. Complete detailed spectral analysis of the intermediates2-4, theN ‘-cyanooxazolylacetamidine by-products7and final compounds5has been carried out using MS, IR, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy. Theoretical research was carried out to explain the privileged formation of 7-aminooxazolo[5,4-d]pyrimidines in relation to the possibility of their isomer formation and the related thermodynamic aspects. Additionally, the single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis for5hwas reported. Ten 7-aminooxazolo[5,4-d]pyrimidines5(SCM1-10) were biologically tested in vitro to preliminarily evaluate their immunological, antiviral and anticancer activity. CompoundsSCM5andSCM9showed the best immunoregulatory profile. The compounds displayed low-toxicity and strongly inhibited phytohemagglutinin A-induced proliferation of human peripheral blood lymphocytes and lipopolysaccharide-induced proliferation of mouse splenocytes. CompoundSCM9caused also a moderate suppression of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) production in a human whole blood culture. Of note, the compounds also inhibited the growth of selected tumor cell lines and inhibited replication of human herpes virus type-1 (HHV-1) virus in A-549 cell line. Molecular investigations showed that the compounds exerted differential changes in expression of signaling proteins in Jurkat and WEHI-231 cell lines. The activity ofSCM5is likely associated with elicitation of cell signaling pathways leading to cell apoptosis. The compounds may be of interest in terms of therapeutic utility as inhibitors of autoimmune disorders, virus replication and antitumor agents.
