A panel of six new arene Ru (II)-NHC complexes 2a-f, (NHC = 1,3-diethyl-(5,6-dimethyl)benzimidazolin-2-ylidene 1a, 1,3-dicyclohexylmethyl-(5,6-dimethyl)benzimidazolin-2-ylidene 1b and 1,3-dibenzyl-(5,6-dimethyl)benzimidazolin-2-ylidene 1c) were synthesized from the transmetallation reaction of Ag-NHC with [(eta(6)-arene)RuCl2](2) and characterized. The ruthenium (II)-NHC complexes 2a-f were developed as effective catalysts for alpha-alkylation of ketones and synthesis of bioactive quinoline using primary/amino alcohols as coupling partners respectively. The reactions were performed with 0.5 mol% catalyst load in 8 h under aerobic condition and the maximum yield was up to 96%. Besides, the different alkyl wingtips on NHC and arene moieties were studied to differentiate the catalytic robustness of the complexes in the transformations.

Mesoporous silica-supported Rh complex catalysts were prepared by simple silane-coupling, followed by cornplexation, and characterized by FT-IR, SEM, Rh K-edge XAFS, and elemental analysis. Local structures of the Rh complexes in each sample were almost similar to those of a nonporous silica-supported diaminorhodiurn complex. Co-immobilization of a tertiary amine on the same silica surface induced slight changes to the Rh complex structure in the case of the support with smaller pores. The prepared catalysts showed high activity for the 1,4 addition reaction of phenylboronic acids. Co-immobilization of the tertiary amine increased the reaction rate by more than 7-fold, with turnover number of nearly 8500. The catalytic performance achieved with this novel system is with much higher than that reported previously with a nonporous silica-supported catalyst. The mesoporous silica-supported Rh complex-tertiary amine showed a wide substrate scope, including unsaturated ketones and nitriles. This co-immobilized tertiary amine may activate phenylboronic acid to enhance its reactivity in the transmetalation step with Rh-OH species.

Herein, the universal design of high-efficiency stimuli-responsive luminous materials endowed with mechanochromic luminescence (MCL) and thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) functions is reported. Methylthiolation reactions are usually explored to access organosulfur compounds using methanethiol, an extremely flammable and toxic compound. Herein, methylthiomethyl esters were successfully applied as novel methylthiolation reagents in a low cost, transition-metal-free methodology. These reagents allowed the methylthiolation of a wide scope of chalcones, acyl ester derivatives and Morita-Baylis-Hillman acetates with good group tolerance, affording the methylthiolated products in moderate to excellent yields. The reaction mechanism was investigated through several control experiments, as well as by theoretical calculations employing Density Functional Theory. The results strongly support that a sulfurane and a sulfonium ylide appear as key intermediates and that a Pummerer type rearrangement is also crucial for the formation of this novel reagent. Furthermore, the methylthiolation mechanism is likely to proceed through the nucleophilic attack of the reagent, followed by an entropically favoured step involving the acetate attack to the positively charged species, then releasing the product.

Objectives Currently, the prevention of recurrent immediate hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) to contrast media (CM) requests premedication and changing the culprit contrast agent. However, strategies for the prevention of immediate HSRs to gadolinium-based magnetic resonance contrast agents (GBCAs) have not yet been established. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of changing the contrast agent and single-dose premedication for HSR recurrence prevention in patients with a history of mild immediate HSR to GBCA. Materials and Methods The outcomes of patients with mild immediate HSR to GBCA who subsequently underwent enhanced magnetic resonance imaging between October 2012 and July 2017 were analyzed. The institutional CM monitoring system was retrospectively reviewed, and data on the application of premedication and choice of CM were obtained. Gadolinium-based magnetic resonance contrast agents were classified into 3 classes according to their molecular structure (macrocyclic ionic, macrocyclic nonionic, and linear ionic). Intravenous chlorpheniramine 4 mg, 30 minutes before the GBCA administration, or intravenous methylprednisolone sodium succinate 40 mg plus chlorpheniramine 4 mg, 1 hour before the GBCA administration, was administrated as premedication regimen. Recurrence rates of immediate HSR were compared according to prevention strategies. Results A total of 185 patients with a history of mild immediate HSR to GBCA were re-exposed to GBCA 397 times during the study period. The overall recurrence rate was 19.6% (78/397). Changing the culprit GBCA significantly reduced the recurrence rate, compared with reusing the culprit GBCA (6.9%, 9/130 and 25.8%, 69/267; P < 0.001). The recurrence rate was lowest when the GBCA was changed to a different molecular structure class from the culprit agent, followed by changing to CM with the same molecular structure and reusing the culprit GBCA (6.2%, 7/113 vs 11.8%, 2/17 vs 25.8%, 69/267; P < 0.001 with chi(2) test for trend). Single-dose premedication demonstrated no significant prophylactic effect on recurrence (20.4%, 17/98 vs 17.3%, 61/299 with and without premedication, respectively; P = 0.509). Premedication in addition to changing CM also showed no additional prophylactic effect (7.2%, 7/97 and 6.1%, 2/33, respectively; P = 0.821). Shallot landraces and varieties are considered an important genetic resource for Allium breeding due to their high contents of several functional metabolites. Aiming to provide new genetic materials for the development of a novel bulb onion cultivar derived from intraspecific hybrids with useful agronomic traits from shallots, the metabolic profiles in the bulbs of 8 Indonesian shallot landraces and 7 short-day and 3 long-day bulb onion cultivars were established using LC-Q-TOF-MS/MS. Principal component analysis, partial least squares discriminant analysis, and dendrogram clustering analysis showed two major groups; group I contained all shallot landraces and group II contained all bulb onion cultivars, indicating that shallots exhibited a distinct metabolic profile in comparison with bulb onions. Variable importance in the projection and Spearman’s rank correlation indicated that free and conjugated amino acids, flavonoids (especially metabolites having flavonol aglycone), and anthocyanins, as well as organic acids, were among the top metabolite variables that were highly associated with shallot landraces. The absolute quantification of 21 amino acids using conventional HPLC analysis showed high contents in shallots rather than in bulb onions.
