A concise and straightforward total synthetic approach towards lycorine-type alkaloid (-)-gamma-lycorane has been achieved in 7 steps. The key feature of the route is the employment of a palladium-catalyzed aromatic C-H alkylation of unactivated secondary alkyl iodide.
